Season’s Greetings from the Orange County Library System!
Like many of you, I cherish the holiday season. It's filled with special times with family, friends and colleagues. It’s also one of the busiest times of year with many extra demands on our time such as holiday shopping, decorating, social engagements and more. To help you manage these many demands, visit our virtual gallery for last-minute gift ideas, suggestions for homemade gifts plus a rich array of resources for convenient, easy online shopping
For the book lover on your list, you won’t want to miss “Ten Books Every Floridian Should Read” on Saturday, December 9 at 10 a.m. at the Orlando Public Library. In this free event, journalist Jeff Klinkenberg of the St. Petersburg Times will share his top ten list of “must read” books:
Speaking of top ten lists, I have put together a list of the top ten things you should know about the library. You just may discover some wonderful resources that you weren’t aware were available to you as a library cardholder:
Let OCLS make your holiday planning easy this year! From programs on party planning – to surviving the season – to tips from a personal chef, it’s all about you . . . and helping you enjoy a stress-free season:
And of course, we haven’t forgotten the little ones! Programs a plenty are on tap where youngsters can deck the halls, make a gingerbread house or even discover the wonder of winter:
We will wrap up the year with a very special “Breakfast with the Characters” at the Orlando Public Library when Curious George, Clifford the Big Red Dog, the Berenstein Bears and other classics from favorite childhood books come alive at the library:
At this joyful time, I also say thank you to those who have helped OCLS bring information, imagination and inspiration to the more than 1 million residents of the library district. What a busy year 2006 has been! The entire OCLS team is moving at warp speed on various projects, initiatives and committees – all with the focus to providing the optimum library experience to our customers. Thanks to the support of our forward-thinking Board of Trustees, OCLS has led the way in many sectors, from its technological innovations, to its grant awards, to its creative programs and special events. Rest assured that we will continue to raise the bar here at OCLS in 2007 and beyond.
The holidays are also a time for sharing and strong, innovative libraries require generous community support. As 2006 comes to a close, we hope you will consider a year-end, tax-deductible gift to benefit the library.
Finally, the holidays are about family and friends. The Friends of the Orange County Library System provide incredible support through the bookstore, advocating for libraries, providing scholarships for library professionals, purchasing books for children in area Head Start programs and so much more! Won’t you consider joining the Friends today?
Please note that the Orange County Library System will be closed on Sunday, December 24 and Monday, December 25 for Christmas, and again on Sunday, December 31 and Monday, January 1 in observance of the New Year’s holiday.
However, while we are closed, you can still use the Library. Check out all the resources still available to you:
