The Library has Cool Things for Summer!
When school’s out for summer, one of the last things on most students’ minds is reading. Yet, according to reading specialists, year-round reading is especially important so that kids don’t undo the progress they’ve made over the previous school year. So the Orange County Library System wants to make reading fun by combining reading with recreation and offering 10 weeks of summer adventures for parents and children. For older kids, there’s the Teen Summer Reading Program.
By now, you’ve hopefully seen some of the Orange County Library System’s colorful new billboards featuring more than a dozen of the area’s brightest stars including Golf Legend Arnold Palmer, Grammy-nominated Artist Tamia, HGTV Designer David Bromstad and several other local luminaries. We’re proud that these celebs value what libraries add to the community. We hope you’ll take their advice, check out the library often and Take Know for an Answer.
Make music part of your summer and take in Friday lunch-time concerts at the Orlando Public Library. This month, we have four Fridays of live music on tap beginning with the piano music of Count Z-Bop on June 1, bluegrass music from the Token Gamblers on June 8, songs and guitar by Audrey Lee on June 15 and then Concert Pianist Denis Plutalov on June 22. Check for other Upcoming Events!
As you settle into a summer-time frame of mind, make OCLS part of the journey. Check out bestsellers for beach reading, new-release DVDs for weekend enjoyment and travel materials for planning your vacation. Whatever you need, chances are it awaits you at the library.
