Have You Had Your Summer Dose of Fun at the Library?
It’s summer and the living is easy, especially if you check out one of the Orange County Library System’s 15 locations! Adults can choose from the latest bestsellers for vacation-time reading and for the kids, Summer Reading Programs remain in full swing. Speaking of swinging, OCLS invites you to step up to the plate and enter Edgewater’s Mystery Item Contest. Simply check out a book, DVD or CD on summertime’s favorite sport – baseball. Just by doing that, you’ve made it to first base and are entered into a grand-prize drawing.
On Saturday, July 14, everyone is invited to get in the pink at the 4th Annual Friends Family Frolic. Join us for family fun featuring games, face painting, pink cotton candy, pink lemonade, hula hoop contests and flamingo putt putt.
Learn all about “green cuisine” as OCLS presents Currents, a series of workshops about “organics.” Sessions will be offered at five branches. Organics is a buzzword that has become increasingly common on menus and supermarket shelves. Learn more about eco-friendly eating at one of these enlightening programs. Also on the health front, the South Trail Branch will present Understanding Women’s Health on Saturday, July 28 at 2 p.m. Join OB/GYN Dr. Richard Lopez for an open discussion on female health issues.
The West Oaks Branch is rolling out all things culinary as it celebrates National Personal Chef Day on July 7 at 1 p.m. Chef Stacy Mackey will share shopping tips, recipes and delicious samples. West Oaks will also celebrate National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 15 at 2 p.m. Come chill out with us as we enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream social.
Summer brings us longer days and more time for family, friends, the great outdoors – and also our libraries and all they offer.
Enjoy the season!
