End of Summer So Soon!
It’s hard to believe summer is winding down and students will soon head back to school. Over the summer, thousands of children and teens participated in our annual Summer Reading Program and I commend them for keeping in the habit of reading when school’s not in session. I also applaud all the area businesses who donated prizes for our Summer Reading Program as incentives for kids to read. Their support of learning and literacy is appreciated and helps children to succeed in school.
As we gear up for another academic year, OCLS has many resources available for parents and students to prepare for the classroom, college and beyond. From test preparation programs and databases to homework help, the Library System is all about knowledge and we invite you to Take Know for an Answer with us.
Our slate of August programs includes several focusing on health, beauty and wellness so check out one of these rejuvenating sessions at a library location near you. Topics cover everything from a beauty escape to blood pressure awareness. On Saturday, August 25, the Southeast Branch will host a candid conversation called Understanding Women’s Health with Dr. Ricardo Lopez. This program will be presented in both English and Spanish.
Are you a poet and want the world to know it? Then enter the OCLS SMS Poetry Slam today! Text the word “poem” followed by your best verse to XPLOR (97567) between August 1st and August 17th. Check www.ocls.info/poem on August 21st to see if your entry has been posted for the world to see!
Finally, as a convenience to our literary-loving book club members, books by the bundle are now available. Book clubs may check out a large number of the same title of our Book Club Picks and the books will be delivered in a distinctive book bundle tote bag to the library location of their choice for pickup. The copies check out for six weeks. Happy reading!
