November's Here!

November’s here and the holidays are just around the corner. The library is getting a jumpstart on the season and kicking it off in festive fashion. On Friday, November 2 don’t miss Music in the Library featuring a special performance by the Chain of Lakes Middle School Chorus at noon at the Orlando Public Library. Later that same day, come back to our downtown location for the Fantastic Family Fair at 7 p.m. The annual after-hours event is part of Orange County’s celebration of National Family Week. There will be food, fun, face painting, music, prizes and storytelling.

Bring your appetite to the West Oaks branch for a celebration of National Sandwich Day on Saturday, November 3 at 12:30 p.m. Folks from the Ocoee Quiznos Subs will share sandwich-making tips and tasty samples.

Then take a step back in history and spend an unforgettable hour in the company of our nation’s third president when Actor/Playwright J.D. Sutton brings Thomas Jefferson to life. Sutton will be performing for Second Saturday on November 10 at 2 p.m. at the Orlando Public Library. His thought-provoking presentation provides an intimate encounter with a man who helped define American independence.

Liz Murray will be at the Orlando Public Library on Sunday, November 11 to give a powerful talk called From Homeless to Harvard. At 15, Liz found herself living on the streets of New York after her mentally ill, drug-addicted parents could not keep their family together. Instead of crumbling, the troubled but determined teen worked her way out of homelessness and all the way to Harvard University. Hers is truly an incredible true story of hope!

Finally, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to say “thank you” to all our patrons for using the library. I hope you enjoy all we offer! Even more, I wish you all a Thanksgiving holiday filled with family, friends and good food.
