Taming the Wild Bully

This March OCLS is leading the March Against Bullying. This is a special program series devoted to help kids, parents and teachers put the brakes on bullying. Unfortunately, bullying has become rampant in schools and we think we can help diminish this troubling trend. A wide array of programs offered at multiple locations will address this important community issue.

We also invite you to discover our many do-it-yourself downloads. Too tired or too pressed for time to make it to the library? No worries. It's now extremely simple to access our materials and check them out or even read from a home computer, smart phone or e-reader. Welcome to the digital age!

Good news for those of you challenged with caring for aging parents. The Counsel for Caregivers seminars are branching out ...literally. In addition to the monthly lunch-time offerings at the Orlando Public Library, Counsel for Caregivers will now host mid-morning seminars at our West Oaks Branch Library in Ocoee. The first one will be Tuesday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m. when Dr. Alfred Soto will discuss the Aging Process: What's Normal, What's Not? We hope to see you there.

The Library Steps Up Its Game!

February has arrived and with it comes a flurry of fun, free events at the Orange County Library System. One you won't want to miss is our sixth annual Step Off on Saturday, February 26 in Library Central at the Orlando Public Library. Step teams from across Central Florida will take to the stage to compete for the coveted title of "Top Team." On-air personalities from 102 JAMZ radio will emcee this exciting and exhilarating competition.

February is also Black History Month and OCLS is hosting a number of programs in honor of the occasion. From author talks to hip hop performance and re-enactment, there's something for everyone.

Has the chill in the air left you with a case of the winter blues? OCLS has the perfect remedy. Join us for Comfort Foods with Chef Dawn Viola at the Windermere Branch on Saturday, February 19, at 11 a.m. Viola will be cooking up an amazing menu that adds a gourmet touch to comfort classics like meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, and more. Sponsored by Publix Supermarkets, this program promises to be a real treat. We hope you can join us for this delicious diversion.
