Drop Everything and Read Day-April 12

In honor of her creator and beloved author Beverly Clearly's 90th birthday, "Ramona" is leading National Drop Everything and Read Day (D.E.A.R.) on April 12th. D.E.A.R. is a special reading celebration to remind and encourage families on this day to make reading together on a daily basis a family priority. The whole idea is to encourage reading. Families can read right at home or can go to the library to make the day even more special. All you need is a book, your family, and 30 minutes!

National Drop Everything and Read Day is sponsored by the National Education Association; National PTA; and the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association; in partnership with HarperCollins Children's Books.

Be sure to pick up free bookmarks and handouts available at Southwest Library to help remind you to drop everything and read on this day!
