*Southwest Library opened March 21, 1989 as a result of a cooperative project between Orange County Library System and Dr. P. Phillips Foundation who constructed the building.

*At 15, 000 square feet (including the Dr. Phillips' Community Room), Southwest Library is the largest branch in the Orange County Library System.

*Southwest Library has a staff of 17 including circulation clerks, shelvers, librarians, and computer techs.

*Southwest Library Friends of the Library volunteers provided 846 volunteer hours in 2005.

*Southwest Library has a collection of 110,000 items (books, DVDs, music CDs, audio books, periodicals, children's material, and computer games).

*Southwest Library has 15 public access computer stations with access to about 70 databases covering arts, entertainment, business, personal finance, homework help, genealogy, automotive, health, and more.

*Southwest Library's 2005 circulation was 444,000 items.

*2005 walk-in visits at Southwest Library totaled 299,850.

*Southwest Library offers various programs for all ages, weekly storytimes for pre-school children, and computer classes from beginning to advanced levels.

*Southwest Library initiated a blog in April 2006 for users to check often for updates on programs, classes, art exhibits, book club news, and new library materials. Users may email, post comments and suggestions.
