Computer Tips and Tricks: Customizing Your Start Menu

Customizing the Windows XP Start menu will give yourself quick access to the programs that you use most often.
The items on the Start menu such as My Computer and Internet are very handy because they require just two clicks to launch. To start up all your other programs, you must click All Programs and then negotiate one or more submenus. You can avoid this extra work by pinning the icons of the programs you frequently use permanently to the Start menu.

To pin an item to your Start menu:
  1. Click the Start buttons.
  2. Click All Programs.
  3. Open the submenu that contains the program you want to pin to the Start menu.
  4. Right-click the program icon.
  5. Click Pin to Start menu.

Also remember that you can remove a pinned item by right-clicking the item and then clicking Unpin from Start menu.
