Stephen B. Holloway, FloridaMosaicMan "Tropical Mosaics" Art Exhibit

MVC-009F.JPG

"Tropical Mosaics" an exhibit of 35 pieces of tropical mosaic art by artist, Stephen B. Holloway, TheFloridaMosaicMan, is being held at the Southwest Library October through December 2008. Stephen's mosaics are made of pieces of glazed ceramic tile. His mosaics are inspired by the shapes, variety, and colors of tropical flora.

Stephen's passion for mosaics began when he took a few mosaic classes in college. Following his retirement as an architect in 2001, Stephen began creating mosaic art as a creative adventure with the intention of producing a legacy for his two children and his grandchildren.

Stephan begins the process by taking a photo. It is his goal to artfully interpret what he sees in the photo and to lock in that vision with each piece of tile. It usually takes one month to complete a piece of mosaic art.

The public will have an opportunity to meet Stephen and learn more about his mosaic art during a Meet the Artist event at Southwest Library on November 13 at 7:00 p.m.

1. The author presents "bits of wisdom" through out the book given by ancient philosophers, country leaders and everyday people. What "bit of wisdom" caught your attention and made you stop and think? Explain.

2. Weiner believes where we are and our culture plays a major role in our happiness. He refutes the belief that all happiness comes from inside of us; that we can be happy no matter where we are. Do you agree with Weiner? Why or why not?
