Benches in the Southwest Courtyard

MVC-005F.JPG Thanks to the Dr. Phillips Rotary Club, Southwest Library now has three park style benches in our Courtyard. The benches not only add beauty to the Courtyard, but provide a place for our patrons and staff to enjoy a bit of relaxation in the sunshine or shade! The benches were purchased with funds raised at the Dr. Phillips Rotary Club's annual A Taste of Dr. Phillips event. MVC-004F.JPG

December is Safe Toys & Gifts Month

Xmas Gift.jpgThere are estimated 235,300 emergency room treated injuries related to toys in 2008 alone according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's [USCPSC] annual report 2008. Among the figure above, 73% (172,700) were to children less than 15 years of age and 35% (82,300) were to children less than five. Unfortunately, there were 69 reported cases of toy-related deaths among children under fifteen between 2006 and 2008.

December is a month of gift giving. Let us be reminded that we should not overlook safety precautions and age groups when we purchase or wrap toys and gifts for our loved ones. Have a safe, happy holiday everyone!
